We're often told we have to choose: one culture, one path, one self.
Here, we explore the messy, beautiful journey that happens in the transition.
This is my exploration of what it means to reconcile a Russian-American heritage.
Hi! I am Daniel Popov.
I grew up in NJ and, like many children of immigrants, only spoke English. This changed in college when I began learning Russian.
This ongoing journey has taken me to some of the happiest places of my life, as well as the most desolate.
I’ve been motivated by my own experiences to write a novel addressing the undiscussed issues that come with learning a language as an adult, even more so if the language is tied to your heritage.
This is a novel about a young man becoming himself, but also perhaps having his sense of self split apart. In other words, about ambivalence and trying to reconcile the parts of ourselves that feel discordant.
I'm happy you are here!!!
